Albert Bierstadt: (7η Ιανουαρίου 1830 - 18 Φεβρουαρίου, 1902)

Γεννημενος στη Γερμανία Αμερικανός ζωγράφος περισσότερο γνωστός για τα πλούσια, περιεκτικά τοπία του της αμερικανικής δύσης. Αν και δεν είναι ο πρώτος καλλιτέχνης που κατέγραψε αυτές τις τοποθεσίες, ο Bierstadt ήταν ο κύριος ζωγράφος αυτών των σκηνών για το υπόλοιπο του 19ου αιώνα.

Γεννημένος στη Γερμανία, ο Bierstadt ήρθε με τους γονείς του στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες σε ηλικία ενός έτους. Αργότερα επέστρεψε για να σπουδάσει ζωγραφική για πολλά χρόνια στο Ντίσελντορφ . Έγινε μέλος του Hudson River School στη Νέα Υόρκη, μια άτυπη ομάδα από ομοϊδεάτες ζωγράφους που ζωγράφι-ζε κατά μήκος αυτού του γραφικού ποτα-μού. Το ύφος τους βασίστηκε σε προσε-κτικά λεπτομερείς πίνακες με ρομαντικό, σχεδόν λαμπερό φωτισμό, που μερικές φορές ονομάζεται luminism .

Ο Bierstadt είναι ένας σημαντικός ερμη-νευτής του δυτικού τοπίου, που μαζί με τον Thomas Moran, ανήκει επίσης στην ομάδα του Rocky Mountain School.
